Broken thing in the middle; is that a rocker arm?

Did not know they used 2 plugs per cylinder. Or am I wrong.

If I had horrible wheel covers like that I'd break myself to get taken off the road too.

They do. My wife's 3.5L V6 has 12 freaking plugs. It's a pain in the ass to do them all.

It's a 5.7. That's the whole problem.

Yep. I can change all 16 in about 90 minutes in my Magnum. There's a lot, but luckily they're all accessible without much fuss.

The rocker arm sheared off. Weird.

the 5.7s have common problems?

Weak top ends plague them. Valve springs are notorious on the earlier 5.7s, not sure about the newest ones. They're okay if you rebuild the top end, but if not, just drive it gingerly.

odd, my friend drives his 2006 5.7 pretty hard and its fine (at least it seems to be) with 150K on it. He's going to trade it for a new charger in a few months though.

My 05 Magnum has 145k as well, but when these things see lots of time at the drag strip or get boosted in any way (supercharger or turbo), they become a time bomb if they didn't get work done on the top end.
I whip my Magnum around as well, but I keep away from redline. 20ishMPG is pretty good for being flogged around too. Block has never been taken apart that I'm aware of. There are guys running modified 5.7s with the heads off a 6.1, new valve springs, etc and they're running 10's regularly. Not only that, but one guy has something like 320k on his.

Yeah my friend doesn't really treat his very well mechanically (4-5K acceleration with cold engine, normally redlines anytime he wants to accelerate quickly when the engine is warm). 320k :o ? That's diesel lifespan there.

Pretty common I guess....we just got a second one in with the same issue.

We just got a second one in on a tow truck....the sabatoge is possible, but which one, the undercover blacked out Charger? Or the Black and white marked charger?

I'm amazed he hasn't dropped a valve yet.

the ironic part is he is about to go to school to be a mechanic. He has a lot to learn (i taught him how to change plugs and brakes like a month ago). Hopefully it doesn't drop a valve before he trades it in.

Yeah. I don't see why he shouldn't keep it. I just bought my Magnum with 142.9k on it, and I recently rolled over 145k. Not getting rid of it any time soon. It'll see a new engine and transmission before I even think of letting it go.
I have a good friend with an 2001 Corvette with the LS1. They just rolled over 200k miles. The thing is mint. Keep them in good shape, take care of them, and they'll last. Thing has seen all sorts of mods, and they'll be doing power adders soon (so far just a big loud exhaust).

he is trading it because he really doesn't need a truck, and since he has a part time job at a dodge dealer (internship) he is getting a great deal on a new charger

ah, the trucks always seemed more durable. I hope he treats that charger right, or he wont have it for long.

especially if he does not break it in properly. Later this year I'm going to show him examples of what can happen to the car if he treats it similarly to his truck. Hopefully since he is buying this one new he will listen to me.
